Uma Umatheva

Uma Umatheva is a solutions engineer at ValGenesis based in Toronto. Uma is a licensed professional engineer in Ontario with more than nearly a decade of experience in the life sciences industry, with a background in bioprocessing, chromatography, filtration, CIP and method validation.

Before joining ValGenesis in July 2025, Uma spent several years at Hyde Engineering + Consulting. As a senior bioprocess engineer, Uma supported Sanofi in Toronto on upstream process development projects and seed management activities. Earlier, Uma served as a project lead and cleaning subject matter expert at Moderna in the Greater Boston area, supporting the site’s transition from cleaning verification to cleaning validation.

Uma has also held research roles at Sanofi Pasteur and McMaster University, working on affinity and membrane chromatography methods and computational fluid dynamics simulations for purification processes. Uma earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering and a bachelor’s degree in chemical and bioengineering from McMaster University.
